SA Express-News: San Antonio Hotel Revenue Pops 10% in 1Q

The San Antonio Express-News reports that the city’s hotel revenues increased more than 10 percent in the First Quarter of 2017, turning around the Texas market share declines of recent years.

In the article “San Antonio hotel revenue pops 10% in 1Q on higher room rates, bookings“, Express-News reporter Joshua Fechter interviewed Source Strategies Senior Vice President Paul Vaughn for some perspective:

Hotels in the Alamo City generated $321 million in hotel room revenue, according to San Antonio-based Source Strategies Inc.’s quarterly Hotel Brands report. That’s up 10.8 percent from almost $291 million brought in during the same period last year — a larger increase than seen in the Dallas, Houston, Austin and Fort Worth markets.

Higher room rates and an increase in bookings boosted hotel receipts, said Paul Vaughn, senior vice president of Source Strategies who authored the report.

The article also called out the good news about Hotel Emma:

Hotel Emma in The Pearl complex cracked the top 10 highest-earning hotels in the state during the first quarter, the only San Antonio hotel to do so.

The 146-room boutique hotel generated $256.69 in revenue per available room, up 13.8 percent from $225.53 during the same period in 2016.

Food & Wine magazine recently named the boutique hotel one of the world’s 40 best “food-centric” hotels on its inaugural Hotel Awards list, and it has garnered a few noteworthy accolades from Condé Nast Traveler and Trip Advisor since it opened in November 2015.
