San Antonio-area hotels off I-35 were winners in first quarter

The conventional wisdom — that San Antonio’s glitzier downtown hotels are the region’s busiest money-makers — didn’t hold up.

Paul Vaughn, senior vice president at Source Strategies, said properties off I-35 are popular with itinerant workers and families who feel safer taking road trips, thanks to the proliferation of COVID-19 vaccines.

The properties are visible from the heavily-traveled highway and conveniently located for quick trips to local destinations, such as SeaWorld or Six Flags, outlet stores in San Marcos or Austin.
